The PADI Adaptive Support Diver course increases awareness of divers’ varying abilities, and explores adaptive techniques to apply when diving or freediving with a buddy with a disability.
PADI Open Water Divers or PADI Freedivers who are at least 15 years old and who have completed the EFR Primary and Secondary Care course within 24 months are eligible to take the PADI Adaptive Support Diver course.
It is recommended that students complete the PADI Peak Performance Buoyancy course prior to Adaptive Support for better awareness of trim.
Academic
Through knowledge development and two diving workshops—one in confined water and one in open water—students will learn useful techniques that will increase a diver’s ability to become a better dive partner to a diver with a disability. Students will gain insight and practical experience, learning about:
Becoming more aware and mindful of individual considerations when diving with people with disabilities—adaptive techniques that can be applied when diving with buddies with mental and/or physical challenges.
Equipment
Along with basic scuba gear, students may discuss any additional gear to assist with a buddy’s particular needs.
Check with me about the required gear that will use during this course and to get advice about everything needed to dive into a new adventure.
